Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cadetships

Child Safety Officers work with vulnerable children and their families to ensure parents receive the support they need to safely care for their children. It can be a complex and challenging career, but also highly rewarding.

We need more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Safety Officers who have the knowledge and skills, both cultural and professional, to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.

We offer cadetships to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students in their final year of study in:

  • Bachelor or Master of Social work
  • Bachelor of Human Services and Social Welfare
  • Bachelor of Social Science
  • Bachelor of Psychology or Behavioural Science
  • Similar courses dependant on subjects studied.

We offer cadets:

  • financial support, including textbook allowances and paid university fees for up to four units
  • academic and cultural support
  • coordinated field placements
  • assistance with applying for employment with the department following graduation.
