The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander motif featured on many of our resources and publications is a piece of storytelling artwork created by Gilimbaa artist, Jenna Lee (Larrakia).
The motif was created as a symbol to represent that the cultural identity, diversity and richness of first nation’s peoples is central to the decisions the department makes with regard to children, families and communities to ensure all Queenslanders are safe and thriving.
The narrative behind the motif centres on reconciliation and healing and the vision for the future, while acknowledging past injustices and trauma and the resilience of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This animation explains the cultural significance of its design.
